Primitive Tensioning Strap by Jerry

We all know the problems generated when you tension your primitive slackline : you loose length and damage your webbing. Our friend Jerry have found a  great way to tension your primitive slackline while keeping the line you walk on separate from the tensioning system. Never worry about damaging your slackline webbing or having to build a primitive system right in the middle of a long webbing. Get your own on balancecommunity.com

New webbing Slack.fr : the MILF

20150217_141717_HDR~2

Slack.fr is about to release a new webbing called the MILF (Made in La France).

It’s a polyester green and blue rather heavy as it’s similar to the Core made by Landcruising.

Nathan Paulin brought it to the festival in Turkey and Guillaume who had a chance to test it, gave us his first impressions.

The webbing is soft on the feet and smooth to walk. It’s not sharp and has low stretch.

Walking on the webbing is smooth and confortable if you stay relax.

This webbing is highly recommendable if you are looking for a challenging line that stays safe and confortable. It’s perfect for longline and a true challenge for highline.

The Machard Drisse

machard-driss1

The ” Machard-Drisse” ! It’s the latest product made by Slack-Mountain.

If you have no jumar, you can do a machard knot on your rope. It’s exactly the same system with a webbing. This is an alternative to the line grip !

The system uses a boat drisse of 20mm in polyester that leaves the webbing straight when stretching ! It’s a great idea and it’s cheap. We are talking about 15€ vs 160€ euros for a line grip. It’s a huge gap !

It only weights 196 gr, so two times less than a line grip.  We all focus about getting light gear, so it’s a good compromise.

The WLL is 800 kg and the MBS 2t4, so it’s more than reasonable.

As it’s only textile and has not metal, the lifetime of the Machard-Drisse is not as long as the line grip. Note that it’s only compatible with polyester webbing. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work with hybrides, dyneema and other textile.

So for low budget the Machard Drisse is perfect, specially if you slack on the floor. For highline, we suggest to use a line grip since it’s faster to setup.

Passion : the new elephant webbing

passion1

Awesome news !! Elephant Slackline just released its first polyamide webbing !!

With 11% stretch at 800 kilos, this means huge bounce !

The Bluewing is famous and a pleasure to slack, so imagine now the Passion ! It will be pure fun to slack this new webbing.

The passion is bicolor : red on one side and white on the other side. 25mm width. With 3.6mm of thickness, which is really thick, we speak about 69 gr per meters. It will break at 3,3T so it’s rather strong.

Stretch is 11 % for 750kg and 15% for 1T5. It’s soft !

The max length available is 200m. By the time you will have clear that, they will probably allow you to buy more.

On the field we managed to get Lukas Irmler impressions  (Elephant slackline pro), as he was lucky enough to test the webbing :

The new Passion Slackline Webbing from Elephant-Slacklines is pure nylon and pure fun. Its awesome for bouncing surfing and all kinds of tricks. Its quite a thick webbing, making the edges round and soft, which is quite awesome on highlines and waterlines – to make it sort its my new favorite

Brakes comparison

There are a dozen of brakes available on the market and I noticed that each one as a different opinion on what brake is the most appropriate for slackline.

To be honest, each brake has his own good and weak points. Some are compact but weak, so are strong but heavy, some other are hard to find. The perfect brake for everyone does not exist but all can do the job.

Here is a short comparison of the most frequent brakes used on the field

Triceratop : triple pulleys

triceratops

Double pulleys, are known ! Quadruple are known ! But the triple are unheard in slackline or climbing !! Only boats use triple pulleys. Triceratops are not dinosaurs : there’re the latest innovation from Slack Mountain, : triple pulleys ! Performance is excellent, it is announced at 97%, so almost no loss. Unit price is € 80 and only 147 € for a pair. It’s cheaper than the Armstrong from Slack.fr, but expensiver than the Slackimoufle of Slack’inov … Difficult to compare as they are the only triple pulleys on the market. So it is between the price of a quadruple and a double : quite reasonable in fact ! Ergonomically, it is inspired by the latest model of the dual pulley from Slack.fr : a flange fixed grip making multiplier office docking allows to blocker under its hauling , thus saving a sling ! There is no friction. With only 960gr it is normal: it is not super light but it’s hard hard to do any better actually! For the shape is not color tuning fashion style: chrome raw metal color : oldshool style ! We always keep the best for last – the resistance : a workload to 1T6 and breaking load at 8t, which leaves room for jumpeurs ! Hold on, you know that manufacturers always leave room on the predicted failure load, and we have a great and surprising information from Romain Schempf , the creator of Triceratop : ” During my labatory test the triple pulleys did not broke : the rope broke before at 105KN be 10t5 ” Wow! Hurry up before the stock runs out !
